TOPIC :  Social media impact on student’s  : Pros & Cons

Social media, a topic that has been going around for a good while millions of debates & more emerging have been going on whether social media is an advantage or a disadvantage to students or even society as all.

Social media began to be more & more well known in from early 2010’s era. More of teenagers & young adults started engaging & using social media as a way to pass time. In all these years there have  been positive & negative impacts of it.Social  media was surely invented with the purpose of benefiting  the human kind as every other invention. But we as human beings have taken it from granted  & have been misusing it in several ways.

Here are few examples of how its been impacting us negatively. People using apps like Instagram have their whole life online. This gives access to criminals to their personal information to the point where these criminals can find exact  location of this person. Students are exposed to various things that are inappropriate from a very young age.  Things where they are exposed to nudity, bullying, abuse, which impact them negatively. They try to keep up with various trends, trends like bullying someone and finding it  funny, disrespecting or disturbing strangers on the road, etc. They get addicted to social media, An average child in India now has a screen time  of more than 10 hours  which means that half of their day goes in waste instead of investing that time in doing  something that would actually benefit them & make them a better person. By spending tremendous amount of time on social media these students have been drifting away  from their  family & have been having fights &  argument  with them. Parents also are at fault for not monitoring their children. In some cases parents when they want to get  rid of their kids or don’t  want to deal with them in a particular situation they give them mobiles so they could be busy and get their work, done. These are some of the  cons of using social media.

Every coin has two sides & so does the impact of social media . Social media as said was invented to benefit humans. And  it  has been doing that . Here are some positive impact of social media. Knowledge can be gained anywhere. Social media  has made things or communication flexible. People can talk  & engage with each other through various parts of the world. It has brought everyone closer. Students can get a wide range of knowledge that too from different perspectives.  Apps like YouTube has made learning easy.  Even  people who can’t afford education or go to various classes can still gain that knowledge with the use of YouTube.  Students can learn  more than what gets taught in the academics.

The conclusion  is that social media is not the problem of the people who use or misuse  it. Its us as students who can control the use of it.

Reading Habits Among Youth by Cinderella Kevin Gonsalves (TY-BA)

TOPIC :     Reading  Habits  Among  Youth

Reading  a book is like a free ticket to travel around  the world .

World that is filled with dreams, Fantasies etc.”

Reading  is like an escape from the  reality from world that is filled with chaos. When a person reads a book- the peace, the calmness, the excitement, the thrill one gets from reading, it can’t be compared to any other materialistic thing in the world.

Today’s digital generation can’t understand the warmth a book gives. The serene smell of the book, the enthralling feeling when you turn another page, the sadness you fill once the book comes to an end, etc.

Sadly, today’s youth is not that serious in reading books. All these materialistic things have made our youth lazy and money-driven which results in robotic minds. The empathy, emotional intelligence we get from books is lost somewhere lost.

I remember the time, I used to get excited over a book, the happiness I felt, the smell of the book, the happiness after knowing the hero and heroine led a happy life ahead., such emotions are somewhere lost in this money-minded people or I say lack of empathy somewhere exist among today’s youth.

Today hardly you can find a youth with such excitement. It pains my heart when my friends term me as a “Boring person” just because I read books. Then I remember the quote, “Books are man’s best friend,” and I just give them a broad smile. Call me boring, but dare someone insult my books!! My books are my pride!!

A few things can be done in order to increase participation of reading among our younger generation. Small libraries or community libraries can be build among societies, small programs can be arranged where people (especially youth) come together and talk about their favorite books, etc. By doing such things, the level of reading among youth can be increased.

Today’s youth are the future lights of our world. Reading makes a man complete. Sadly, the future of our world is going down. Young minds are focusing on things which are taking them away from books. Today’s youth focus more on social media, disgusting addictions like pornography and various other harmful addictions. The lifestyle they are  adapting  are harmful for them and also for the society as a whole. Books teach an individual the core values that are needed to become a well-behaved individual.

So unless  these is an increase in reading  habits  among  youth, a society cannot be completed  as a whole . If such harmful practices, (Social media and other addiction) still continue among youths, then  the  future of our world is somewhere going downhill. If you look up to any renowned figure like  Bill gates, Warren Buffet etc, all are avid reader’s.

So my dear youth, start reading books or the forthcoming  generation  will be filled with money driver  thoughts and robotic minds”.

(“ I feel there is something magical when you read a good book.”)

The rupee is the official currency of India the worlds fifth largest economy by nominal  GDP and third largest by purchasing power parity.  The rupee also serves as a legal tender for our neighboring  countries like Bhutan, Nepal .  IMF director says India alone is accountable for 15% of the global growth. RBI’s report states that Indian rupee is the 9th most traded currency across the globe. This shows India’s fundamental and economics resilience to re-energize economic growth.  Indian has taken a step ahead to achieve this goal RBI has started Special Rupee  Vostro  Account ie  foreign authorized bank can open special account in India this will allow investors to trade directly in rupees. A total  of 18 countries have been allowed to open 60 SRVA Asian clearing Union has named rupee a trade settlement currency.  Srilanka uses rupee as a foreign exchange Reserve.

There are many prerequisites of internationalizing of rupees.

1)    Reduced dependency on foreign countries ,currencies-

Internationalization of rupees will reduce India’s reliance on foreign countries for international trade and transaction.

2)    Strength Regional Influence –

As rupee will be global India will uphold significant position in economic world and emerge as major economic player.

To achieve the goal we face many challenges .

1)    Rupee is not fully convertible   -

Rupee is not fully convertible  as India’s  share  of export is just  2%                          this reduces the necessity to hold rupee as a reserve currency.

2)    Confidence & Perception.

The credibility and stability of India’s monetary policy & fiscal policy plays a crucial role in building confidence in rupee. Any wrong  perception & uncertainty can lead to lack of confidence.

3)    Competition –

Foreign currency such as dollars, Euro, Japanese Yen Chinese Yuan  displacing these dominant currency is a significant challenge.

4)    Adaption by Market Participants –

Convincing foreign investors, financial institution, businessman & individual to make transaction in rupees. This needs trust familiarity and confidence in a currency .

Steps the government should take :-

1)     Make rupee more freely convertible –

With  a goal of full  convertibility by 2060, Indian trade  partners and foreign investors will have  to invest in capital bond  eg:- Masla Bond more such hybrid  instrument   should be introduced  to gain capital flow.

2)    Increase Export –

Indian’s  Economic Advisor K.V.  Subrimaniam, India’s  representatives at IMF stated that India can only  achieve this goal after emerging  as a manufacturing  hub & export powerhouse. India’s  share in  merchandise export is only 4% &  service mostly 6%  increasing export will foster economic growth.

3)    Encourage Exporters / Importers to trade in rupees-

Over 90% of Indian’s export is done in dollar & 80% of import is conducted in dollar .

This shows our  overdependency  on  foreign  currencies  currently we export Basmati rice to Iran and import  crude oil this trade settlement is done through rupees.

4)    Emerging  as a Major Geopolitical  Player –

India is a active  participant  of G20, BRICS, IMEEC, SAARC, this   fosters connectivity between these groups will allow rupee to attain the position .

In 2023 BRICS summit hosted by south Africa gave a bold statement of DE-DOLLERIZATION. This shows trading in local currency is important.

In conclusion  -as  Rome wasn’t build in a day making rupee a global reserve  currency is a ongoing & continuous process. The above mentioned policy and economic resilience will surely emerge rupee as global reserve currency.

As Rupee will be globalized more, Indian will be a  superpower country.
